NASTEC

Senior Scientists Forum Initiation Workshop

The Senior Scientists Forum (SSF) is one of the consultative fora initiated by the NASTEC with the objectives of encouraging and strengthening cooperation in science and technology sector among scientists in Sri Lanka, and involving scientists in the formulation of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) related policies and reviews.

The SSF which was inaugurated in 2001 has been active for a decade until 2010. However, due various obstacles, the SSF has not been active and the NASTEC reactivated the SSF in 2021, especially to obtain support from senior scientists on NASTEC initiatives in achieving national priority goals.

The Senior Scientists’ brainstorming workshop was held on 8th April 2021 at Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA) in hybrid mode to obtain views from Senior Scientists on how best SSF can be reactivated and what contribution they could make to both NASTEC activities and for the promotion of STI in the country. About 50 Senior Scientists joined in person and around 30 joined online via zoom. Prof. Sirimali Fernando, Commission Member of NASTEC, addressed the gathering on the Role of Senior Scientists in promoting STI in the country and supporting NASTEC in STI related activities. The workshop was concluded successfully with a way forward for the Senior Scientists Forum
